I help enterprising families to develop the glue that holds them together and the grease that allows them to rub along together without bursting into flames, and to have the conversations that matter most to them without going into fight/flight/freeze mode.

Drawing on 40 years' experience of working with families as adviser, litigator and trustee, on my craft as a mediator, and on the principles of interpersonal neurobiology, I work as listener, communications and conflict coach, facilitator and mediator to families around the world, helping them to have the conversations they need to have but have never quite got around to (too difficult!), or have tried their best to have but without success (nobody listened!!).  Those conversations are often about succession and governance.

I am:
  • a non-practising solicitor (England);
  • an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators;
  • a member of the Association of Contentious Trust & Probate Specialists;
  • a Chartered Tax Adviser; and
  • a member of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners.

I am accredited as a commercial mediator by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and as a general mediator by the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, and have been certified as an intercultural mediator (to International Mediation Institute Standards) by Mediation & Training Alternatives.  I trained as a family mediator with ADR Group/Family Mediators' Association.

I study interpersonal neurobiology with the Mindsight Institute and am a member of the Global Association of Interpersonal Neurobiology Studies.

I am a member of the International Steering Committee of the STEP Business Families Special Interest Group, and am the author of the Conflict Management and Dispute Resolution chapter in Business Families and Family Businesses: The STEP Handbook for Advisers published by Globe Business Publishing Limited.
